Sizes come up on the average / large side. Fabric is stretchy so each size can be worn for 3 years or more. Measure the child from shoulder to bottom and check against the Swimwear Height column.
Rash Vest note: size 0-1 runs large and is likely to fit from approximately 6 months onwards.
Cultivated for over 7,000 years across the Indus Valley, Mesoamerica and West Africa — one of the oldest farmed fibres on earth. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers, in soil that is independently monitored and tested. It is certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the most rigorous independent textile certification available, which covers the entire supply chain from field to finished garment.
Against skin, it breathes. It softens with every wash. It does not trap heat or hold synthetic chemicals against the body. In water, it does not shed plastic fibres. What it is made from, and how it is grown, is inseparable from what it feels like to wear.
UPF 50+ is the highest available UV protection rating, blocking over 98% of ultraviolet radiation. In most swimwear, this rating is achieved through chemical coatings or synthetic spray-on finishes applied to the fabric surface — treatments that can degrade with use, wash out over time, and add another layer of chemistry to what sits against skin in the sun.
Earthcove achieves UPF 50+ differently. The protection is built into the fabric itself — through the density and weight of the organic cotton knit, which leaves insufficient space for UV to pass through. No coating. No spray. No treatment that fades. The fabric that gives sun protection is the same fabric that touches the body.

Two percent of each Earthcove garment is lycra — the element that gives the fabric its stretch, its shape retention, and its ability to move with the body in water without losing its fit. It is the minimum required for a swimwear fabric to perform properly across seasons of use.
The lycra used in Earthcove is free from PFAS and BPA. It contains no perfluorinated compounds and no bisphenol A — two of the most commonly cited chemical concerns in synthetic textiles.
Earthcove swimwear is not plastic-free. The 2% lycra means it is not, and we will not claim otherwise. What it is: dramatically less plastic than the 80–100% synthetic fabrics that make up most swimwear on the market. Less against the body. Less into the water.
Earthcove prints are screen printed using GOTS compliant, water-based ink. PVC-free. Phthalate-free.
Conventional screen printing applies colour as a plastic layer that sits on top of the fabric — a layer that can crack, peel, and shed over time. Earthcove's water-based inks work differently: the colour is held by a binder that bonds into the fabric itself rather than coating its surface. Water is the carrier, not plastic.
The pigments are GOTS approved and independently tested to be free from heavy metals, phthalates, formaldehyde, azo dyes and PFAS. This is the standard we have maintained across the Pure Earth Collection group for nine years.
